The Summer of LeBron has become a part of our lives as sports fans every four years.

Just like a presidential election: 2010, 2014 and now, the summer of 2018.

The choices that LeBron James has made throughout his NBA career, when it comes to destination, have been perceived in a variety of ways by media and fans alike.

There was the ill-advised “Decision” in 2010, in which LeBron James joined forces with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, and took his talents to South Beach.

The ridiculous TV spectacle and the manner in which LeBron handled his departure was universally criticized.

Four years later, there was the triumphant homecoming to Ohio, when LeBron returned to put an end the city of Cleveland’s tortured history and fifty-plus year title drought.

LeBron’s return to Cleveland was treated with universal praise, and the fact that he was able to win a title in 2016 allowed the King to leave his hometown for the second time without criticism.

The question for LeBron this time around centered on what exactly his motivation was over the next few years.

LeBron’s motivation became more clear with the news that he, just like Kareem, Wilt and Shaq, was set to become a Los Angeles Laker.

LeBron in Los Angeles is a match made in heaven.

It goes beyond basketball.

LeBron James is a world-wide brand. He is a basketball icon. The idea of one of the greatest players of all time playing for one of the greatest franchises of all time makes perfect sense.

He is a mogul who has already expressed a great deal of interest in Hollywood. His family resides in a mansion in Brentwood.

For his post-basketball career and his family life, Los Angeles makes perfect sense.

In addition to family and post-basketball interests, the Lakers were able to use an asset that has the ability to relate to Lebron on and off the court in a way that nobody in his basketball career has done from a professional standpoint.

That asset is one of the greatest players of all time and the Lakers director of basketball operations, Magic Johnson.

It has been widely reported that Magic was instrumental in the recruiting process, and it makes sense.

The way Magic has been able to transcend the sport is something that could easily catch the eye of LeBron.

The recruiting power of LeBron James and Magic Johnson is the hope the Lakers have of building a team that’s capable of giving the Golden State Warriors a run for their money.

No quick fix, no easy road, but LeBron saw a path on and off the court that led him to Los Angeles.

“LeBron The Laker” –– that’s a headline that Hollywood could get behind.

Only time will tell if that script will feature a happy ending.
