Flushing officially welcomed the Year of the Pig with the annual Lunar New Year Parade through downtown.

On a chilly Saturday morning, various group marched down Union Avenue, making their way to Main Street and past the Flushing Library. They included Korean drummers, Chinese lion dancers, and community groups, from senior centers and martial arts schools and the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce.

Numerous elected officials and other parade dignitaries led the procession.

In the Chinese Zodiac, the pig is associated with good fortune and friendliness, but they can also careless.
