Last week at its Flushing Community Holiday Meal, the chamber announced the launch of its 2020 Lunar New Year Promotional Campaign throughout the month-long holiday.
As part of the campaign, the group will distribute 5,000 red envelopes during the 2020 Lunar New Year Parade in Flushing, which attracts nearly 10,000 visitors from across the region. Each red envelope will contain business cards and coupons from local small businesses.
“Red envelopes are gifts presented at special occasions and symbolize good luck throughout the year,” said Taehoon Kim, president of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce. “Many people hold onto the red envelopes as keepsakes.”
The Flushing parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 25. It’s organized by a coalition of groups spearheaded by the Flushing Chinese Business Association and the Korean American Association of Queens.
In addition to handing out red envelopes, the chamber is also distributing 1,000 Good Fortune calendars. The group is hosting a pre-parade reception at 9:30 a.m. that day at the historic St. George’s Church in Downtown Flushing.
Hot coffee and donuts will be served at the reception before the parade begins at 11 a.m.
